Hero and Zero
HERO: Mill Valley resident Helen Rossini is set to be honored this weekend by the San Francisco-based organization Support for Families of Children with Disabilities for a lifetime of advocacy and service. Rossini, a former psychiatric social worker, helped found a number of support groups around the Bay Area that remain a vital tool for parents coping with the tough task of raising a special needs child. The gala celebration will be held October 6, 6-10pm at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco; for more info, call 415/282-7494 or visit www.supportforfamilies.org.
ZERO: Clay from San Rafael writes us with an amusing tale of suburban political sabotage and creative turnabout. Seems Clay placed a Barack Obama sign on his front lawn, only to have it snatched the following night by an anonymous rogue agent and replaced by a Hillary placard. Thinking quickly, Clay grabbed a black Sharpie and added the words "would make a great running mate for Obama!" to his new yard decal. Not a slogan that trips easily off the tongue perhaps, but a wily retort to a Zero-worthy act. Next week: Clay fends off a John Edwards-backing graffiti artist.—Jacob Shafer
