Ross Valley School District Expansion Local Public Issues, posted by Member, a resident of the San Anselmo neighborhood, on Dec 2, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Just curious what others think about the RVSD ideas to build a new school and expand White Hill. From the articles that have been written, it looks like a new bond and parcel tax will eventually be needed. Articles have also suggested that most of the need comes from Fairfax.
As a resident of San Anselmo, it would seem we are being asked to foot a larger portion of this bill. The taxes proposed are based on property value. Our property values are typically higher, therefore so will the taxes that are assessed. Doesnt seem quite right.

Where are all these kids coming from? It's not from growth in Marin. I haven't been reading about a new baby boom, though maybe I've missed it. Does it really make sense to build a new school or is temporary expansion more practical? Hard to believe that such a boom will continue in Marin. If it doesn't, they will be closing schools before much time passes, as they have in the past.

I have been following the Ross Valley extension very closely and they are not making this up. The schools are bursting at the seams and the only solution is to open a new campus, probably by reopening an existing school.
When did we become so selfish and self absorbed that we no longer want to support our public services. I don't have children but I have no problem paying for schools. Tell me - did you go to public schools? Someone paid taxes for that. Now its our turn.

The Red Hill School will cost a lot more to bring up to current required standards then the old property in Fairfax. Someone mentioned that there are many new students coming from Fairfax so I am betting that that willbe the campus that is rebuilt
