Continuing $20 Billion State Deficits Forecast
State, National, International, posted by Editor, Pacific Sun Online, a resident of the San Rafael neighborhood, on Nov 18, 2009 at 12:02 pm

The State of California has a $20 billion deficit problem which will continue well beyond this year according to a report released today by the California Legislative Analyst's Office. Web Link

Excerpts from the executive summary:

"Our forecast of California's General Fund revenues and expenditures shows that the state must address a General Fund budget problem of $20.7 billion between now and the time the Legislature enacts a 2010-11 state budget plan. The budget problem consists of a $6.3 billion projected deficit for 2009-10 and a $14.4 billion gap between projected revenues and spending in 2010-11. Addressing this large shortfall will require painful choices - on top of the difficult choices the Legislature made earlier this year."

"The forecast assumes no COLAs and no salary increases for state employees through 2014-15. Furthermore, under our forecast that assumes school funding at the minimum guarantee level for Proposition 98, districts will be affected by the loss of billions of dollars of temporary federal stimulus funding over the next two years. Even in this stringent scenario, we forecast that operating deficits after 2010-11 will be around $20 billion each year."

And they just passed an $11 billion dollar bond measure. I know water is a big deal and must we dealt with, but at some point doesn't the state's continuing bankruptcy deserve to be treated as the top crisis until it is fixed? Voters have a chance to say no to this and all other bond measures, but given their record I don't hold out much hope. California voters seem to enjoy drilling more holes in the ship as it sinks.

Question to all: ::::::::::

Are we CALIFORNIANS tired of the ultra liberal CA legislature that has put us innocents in this mess?

Here in Marin my family is frustrated and fed up with Boxer, Pelosi, Woolsey -- and all the lazy RATS in the CA legislature.

How about we dock "their" pay for a few years as payback. How about we dismantle the union thugs and their outrageous pensions? Teachers Unions? Don't get me started.

Crooks, all of them! Vote them OUT, folks! 2010 and 32012 is our time to come together - dems , indies, repubs-- and vote for those who support their constituents. What a concept!
