Ken Holmes says, "They're going to end the position so I have to retire." Um......He was planning on retiring anyway! He doesn't HAVE to retire, he chose to retire before this whole merger propsition even hit the tables.

Ken Holmes sounds like a caring, sensitive, hardworking person who has done remarkable work in a difficult job; the article is very well written and comprehensive, yet all john doe in Kentfield can say is a mean-spirited nit-picking comment about when exactly Holmes decided to retire! Shame!

I agree 100% with the first Jane Doe's comments. The article let us know what a caring man Ken Holmes must be. I lost my very dear friend in a horrific house fire and gas explosion in San Rafael last year and it is very comforting to know that Ken Holmes was in charge of the investigation into my friend's death. Ken, thank you for what you do for us.

Thank you for the great article about Mr. Holmes in the Pacific Sun. I lost my husband to suicide in 1999. I will never forget the kindness and caring shown to me by Mr. Holmes. He took the time to phone me at home and we spoke for almost an hour. Even now 10 years later, his words in the article are a comfort. There is also a good article in today's IJ regarding the proposed merger of the coroner's office with the sheriff's office. I agree that it would not be in the county's best interests to do this for many reasons.
Thank you for your service, Mr. Holmes and I wish you the best in your retirement.
